Here’s a letter from a local community member whose life was impacted by our Hope in the Streets (HITS) Team.
I am writing you today because I really want Hope Community Church to know that your goal to reach your community has helped my life so greatly. I first came into contact with Hope Community Church when my sons were invited by the HITS Team to participate in the mentorship activities on Wednesday night. At the time, I was a member of another Church and their service times conflicted with the mentorship program therefore my sons could not faithfully attend. This did not stop James and the HITS Team from continuing to reach out to my family. They introduced me to the activities and events that Hope has to offer and invited me to tour the church. After the tour, I began to attend Celebrate Recovery at Hope. I found the support family that I truly needed and didn’t have at my own church. I held the evangelism title at my church but kept running into brick walls when trying to reach the community because I was encouraged to promote the pastor and not the kingdom. In my heart I knew this wasn’t right. It was through working through some issues at Celebrate Recovery that I was able to see that this was not the ministry for me.
This past Saturday and Sunday, I attended Hope. I was welcomed from the time I got there and even upon exiting. I took communion for the first time in months on Sunday at Hope. Additionally, the HITS team delivered bags of groceries to my community, Brook Hill Apartments. I was able to assist in getting food out to needy people in my neighborhood. I spoke with people Sunday that I’ve never had time to speak with before. I also joined the HITS team in a night of prayer for a member of my community.
I am still praying about what the Lord wants me to do now that he has set me free from the bondage that I’ve been in for most of my life as a believer. While I’m waiting for direction, I hope to serve at Hope Community Church. I am a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and I just want to hear him say well done when I face eternity. Thanks so much for reaching out to your surrounding community. My sons and I will never be the same because of the difference you have made!
