Ice Breaker
Would you rather have a friend who is 100% fun or 100% faithful? Why?

Main Idea
One of God’s primary characteristics is His faithfulness. He sticks by His promises.( Numbers 5:23.19) He is always with His people. ( Matthew 28:20) He is trustworthy ( 1 Corinthians 1:9)

The Holy Spirit empowers those with faith in God to embody these characteristics even when we don’t understand what He is doing.

Discuss
Share a memory when someone came through for you at a crucial time. What did that experience mean to you?

What does faithfulness mean to you? What makes someone faithful?

Would others describe you as a faithful person? Why or why not?

What does the Bible say?
Read Genesis 22:1-14
If you have come to church for a while, this story can lose its “punch” because it is so familiar. Try to look at it with a fresh perspective. What strikes you most from this story?

How did Abraham respond to God’s unusual command? What do you think enabled him to do this?

Read Luke 7:1-10
What was so remarkable about the faith of the centurion?

Why is it so important to God that we be faith-filled? (To dig deeper, read Hebrews 11:1-6)
What would that kind of faith look like in your life today?

Live Obediently
Living obediently is one of the five characteristics of someone who is growing in their relationship with Jesus. We live obediently by knowing Jesus and His word and remaining in Him.

• Donnie reminded us that the time to be faithful is right now. “Delayed obedience is actually disobedience.”
o What area of “obedience” have you been putting off? What is keeping you from simply doing what you are called to do?
o Share with one other member of your group what you are committed to do to be faithful this week.
• Early Christians (much like us today) encouraged each other to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and faithfulness played a huge role. This week, read or listen to Hebrews 11 and think of what “modern additions” you might add to the lists as an encouragement to be faithful.
