Main Idea
God is looking for someone who will obey Him.

As a child or adolescent, how consistent were you at obeying your parents? Whether you tended to obey or disobey, what motivated you towards one or the other?

When is a time you had to go against the crowd to stand for something significant? What was the result?

What does the Bible say?
1 Samuel 9:1-2
Saul was chosen to be king based on his appearance and abilities. When have you felt chosen for something based on external qualities instead of internal qualities? When have you felt overlooked for the same reasons?

Read 1 Samuel 2:22-23, 3:11-13
Samuel walked with God despite unhelpful circumstances and relationships around him. What circumstances and relationships make it challenging for you to walk with God, and what can you do to overcome those things?

Apply the Message
David was anointed to be king many years before he actually stepped into the office. In the meantime he was on the run from Saul, but continued to obey God as he waited for the role God had prepared for him.

What steps of obedience do you need to take now, in order to be prepared for what God has in store for you later?
