Main Idea

We are called to follow in the footsteps of Jesus by acting with compassion for hurting people.

If you could go on a mission trip anywhere in the world, where would you want to go?  Why?

If you have ever been on a mission trip overseas, what is something you learned from that experience?

What opportunities and challenges have COVID presented to serving others in your life?

Read Colossians 3:12-14 and Leviticus 25:35 and discuss

  • What is the difference between “having good feelings about compassion” and acting with compassion?
  • What would it look like for you to be more active in showing compassion to hurting people in your life right now?

Try an experiment in your group tonight.  Break up into groups of 2-3 and assign one of the following passages to each group:  Luke 4:14-21, Matthew 22:34-40, James 1:22-27, and Matthew 9:35-38.

    • Set a timer for ten minutes to split up and then come back together. In your groups, discuss:
      • What does this passage say about God?
      • What does this passage say God wants for or from us?
    • Have each group come back to share the main idea of the passage and how the passage encouraged or challenged you.

Share one specific action step you as an individual can take to grow in showing compassion to others. Spend some time praying for each other to share God’s heart for our hurting world and any prayer requests you have together.
