Dec. 14 & 15, 2019

Over the course of King David’s long, crazy life, he made plenty of mistakes—many of which ended in disaster. But by the end of his life, he finally learned to trust God, no matter what the circumstances.

In this series, we’re taking a look at a few different episodes from David’s life, including some lesser known stories, in order to examine that process of developing wisdom.

Matthew includes the genealogy of Jesus, showing that He comes from the line of David (Matthew 1:1)

  • He could’ve highlighted plenty of good things about David, but he alludes to a sin that had huge consequences

Backstory on David:

  • God makes promises to David (2 Samuel 7:4-16)
  • Just four chapters later, David does something horrible that displeases the Lord (2 Samuel 11:27)

God kept His promise, despite David’s sin

  • David is the perfect example of God inviting us into a personal relationship with Him
    • It doesn’t depend on our personal righteousness

You’ll never know the peace of having your sin removed as long as you’re trying to negotiate that peace on your own terms

Parting Thought: If something about the Gospel seems too good to be true, then you understand it
