Main Idea
Following Jesus comes with a cost, but the cost is worth it.

In Luke 14:26, Jesus says, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters – yes, even their own life – such a person cannot be my disciple.” How do you react to this?

When you became a Christian what did you think was involved? What did you think you would be getting and what did you think you would have to give up?

What does the Bible say?

Read Luke 14:28-33
In this passage what are the consequences the builder and the king faced when they did not count the cost?

How does this passage elevate the expectations Jesus has for a disciple?

Apply the Message

Imagine yourself as the Christian you want to be at the end of your life. What things do you need to let go of or take hold of now, in order to arrive at that version of yourself in the future?
