Bad words last, but good words last too.
We have all been hurt by words, yet we still hear the saying “sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” Why do you think this saying is so common even though it isn’t true?
James 3:5 says “The tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.”
Can you remember a time when someone said something to you and you just exploded because there was already a forest there and they just dropped the match?
This weekend, we heard about five ways that our words can bring death:
- Stirring up conflict
- Contentious speech
In which of these areas could you use a guard over your mouth? How is that an area of struggle for you?
